POSITION SUMMARY
The Asphalt Crew Labourer is responsible for performing a variety of physical labour duties in support of asphalt paving, road construction, site preparation, and general civil construction activities.
The position requires physical stamina, the ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions, and a strong commitment to workplace safety, quality, teamwork, and productivity.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist with asphalt paving and road construction operations.
- Rake, shovel, spread, level, and finish hot-mix asphalt as directed.
- Assist with asphalt screed and paving operations.
- Use hand tools such as rakes, shovels, lutes, brooms, and other construction tools.
- Assist with traffic control and safe movement of equipment and vehicles around the work area.
- Clean asphalt spills and maintain a clean and organized work zone.
- Assist with site preparation, road construction, and site clean-up.
- Perform general labour duties including shovelling, digging, lifting, carrying, sweeping, raking, and material handling.
- Assist equipment operators with spotting, guiding, and communicating around machinery.
- Assist with installation, removal, and maintenance of construction materials and temporary structures.
- Load, unload, move, and organize materials, tools, and equipment.
- Operate basic hand and power tools when trained and authorized.
- Assist other crew members with tasks as required to maintain productivity and project schedules.
- The employee may be required to perform other related duties and responsibilities as reasonably assigned by management based on operational and project requirements.
SAFETY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Follow all Villeneuve Construction health and safety policies, procedures, and safe work practices.
- Wear all required personal protective equipment (PPE), including hard hat, high-visibility clothing, safety footwear, eye protection, hearing protection, and other PPE as required.
- Follow traffic control procedures and remain alert around moving vehicles and heavy equipment.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area to reduce hazards.
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
- Previous construction, asphalt, roadwork, or general labour experience is considered an asset.
- Previous asphalt paving experience is considered an asset.
- Ability to perform physically demanding work for extended periods.
- Ability to lift, carry, push, pull, bend, kneel, and stand for extended periods.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, and dust.
- Ability to follow instructions and work effectively as part of a crew.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
- Reliable attendance and punctuality.
- Strong safety awareness and willingness to follow company procedures.
- Ability to work extended hours, weekends, and varying schedules when required by project demands.
- Valid driver's licence is considered an asset.
- Ability to work in various weather conditions
